Leading without Power
Finding Hope in Serving Community
some excerpts
“A place of realized potential opens itself to change, to contrary opinion, to the mystery of potential, to unsettling ideas... A closed organization is a tragedy. An open one holds enormous promise.”
“It’s interesting how many organizations have manuals pertaining to technical areas. But for examples of acceptable behavior we all look naturally and immediately to leaders. Leaders are walking and talking manuals of behavior. As we listen to them, we silently ask ourselves what they did last Friday morning when there was a problem. And we watch. And just as surely as financial people measure return on assets, we all measure the behavior of our leaders. We measure it against our ideals and against our realities. Think about the return on behavior! Would’t that make a telling graph in the annual reports of organizations!”
